About Jane Addams
Jane Addams was born in Illinois, as the eighth of nine children. Three of her siblings died in infancy, and her mother died from tuberculosis during pregnancy when Jane was just two years old. Dr Addams worked toward goals such as juvenile law, womens’ rights, workers’ compensation, justice for immigrants, poverty, pacifism and international peace. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931, becoming the first US woman to win the prize.
This bursary is awarded to students with outstanding and demonstrated community service activities, who receive offers to medical schools.
